Will The State Defend Our Local Schools From Obama (May 25, 2016)
After the Department of Education issued its “guidance letter” reinterpreting “sex” in Title IX to mean “gender identity,” the ACLU, predictably, filed a complaint asking the federal Office of Civil Rights to investigate Sumner County, Tennessee’s school system because it won’t allow a boy who thinks he’s a girl to use the girl’s bathroom. Even then the Governor and Attorney General did not send a strong message to Tennessee’s schools that the state would engage and defend them. So legislators began to talk seriously about a special session to address the issue.
Whether because of the legislature’s threat of action or an awakening to the reality of the threat our local schools faced, it now appears that the Attorney General is going to assert the state’s interest in the Sumner County investigation.
Now let’s see if he does.
