What Drives Our Votes? (March 1, 2016)
Donald Trump’s primary success among Christians has been attributed to a number of things, such as his outsider status, the failure of prior social conservative candidates to support our values, and a desire to send a message to “establishment” Republicans. Perhaps some of his support can be attributed to the “Obama phenomenon,” a desire to support anyone we hope can bring change.
Whatever the reasons, our emotions, particularly anger, cannot drive our decisions, when we go to the polls because we know that the “anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.”
As we move toward the election of state officials in November, we need to remember not to let fear, frustration, or blind hope prevent us from examining the values, policies, and character of those who seek our support and basing our vote on those things.
