It Takes More Than Christian Doctrine (June 25, 2014)
How much does a politician’s professed Christianity matter? When it comes to the candidate’s character or their basis for understanding right and wrong, it should matter a lot. But that’s not all that matters.
Being a Christian doesn’t mean that a political candidate understands anything about how our form of government is supposed to work. Too many Christian candidates don’t have an adequate understanding of how a constitutional republic is supposed to work or the different roles and responsibilities assigned to the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government. When it comes to knowing these things, it doesn’t really matter how holy a candidate may be.
So, Christian voter, beware of the politician who comes to you wearing their Christianity on their sleeve. That sleeve might just be part of the sheep’s clothing under which a political wolf is hiding.
