Abortion, MLK & The Image of God (January 23, 2013)
In recent days we marked two events in the life of America: the 40th anniversary of Roe V. Wade, the infamous court decision declaring abortion to be a constitutional right and the life of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.
Two different dates, marking two different events, but a common issue – the dignity of man as an image bearer of God.
In one event, our Supreme Court reduced human life to nothing but tissue that could be destroyed if it proves inconvenient. In the other we affirm that people are entitled to civil liberties based not on the the color of their skin but on their very human-ness.
As we consider these two very different events in the life of America, let us dedicate our lives to defending the intrinsic value of human life because all of us, born and unborn, and regardless of race, are made in the image of God.
