Stronger Families, Better Schools (January 16, 2013)
A recent liberal editorial in one of Tennessee’s largest newspapers criticized the education reform agenda of Tennessee’s Republican state legislators, saying that “virtually all of the state’s ‘failing schools’ are in poor, urban neighborhoods and filled with students, often from broken families.”
The liberal solution to overcoming these “disadvantages?” More money.
Now not all the touted reforms are perfect. Some seem like nothing more than re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic. But what about liberals calling for measures to encourage marriage and discourage the promiscuity that leads to single parent homes.
It’s time for both parties to do what they can to solve the very real problems hurting the poorer children in our state caused by broken homes and families.
