New Year Old Ways in DC (January 2, 2013)
We are off to a brand new year, but based on the conduct of our politicians in Washington you would never know it. They’re still stuck in the partisan bickering, finger pointing, and blame shifting that defined last year. But we probably shouldn’t be too surprised.
In Colossians we are told that it is in Christ that all things hold together. So with our politicians routinely excluding God and His word from their deliberations – often at our insistence – should we expect God to bring the cohesion that is needed?
As we ponder how to pray for Congress this year, we might do well to ask that their eyes be opened to their accountability to God. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and a little more fear of God and wisdom in our nation’s capitol would certainly be something new this year.
