Curbing Campus Sexual Violence (February 4, 2015)
C.S. Lewis wrote in the Abolition of Man: “We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst.”
And a similar sentiment could have been expressed about the meeting higher education officials had last week to talk about how to curb sexual violence on college campuses.
Sadly, the colleges spent more time talking about process than substance. They discussed how to avoid dangerous situations, the impact of alcohol, and how to handle incident reports, but missing was any discussion of things like the effect of pornography and whether there are any God-given boundaries for sexual intimacy.
No doubt, Lewis would have said of the meeting, “They avoid discussing boundaries, and then are shocked to find students behave like there are none.”
