Justice Ginsburg Does It Again, Without Consequence (July 20, 2016)

Two years ago Justice Ginsburg said she believed that America was ready for same-sex “marriage.” She made those statements prior to her deliberations on and vote to constitutionally mandate same-sex “marriage.”

Many complained that she should have recused herself from that case based on the Code of Judicial Conduct, but nothing happened. Now she’s made comments about Donald Trump and his campaign in violation of the Code of Judicial Conduct. As before, nothing will happen because what Court has jurisdiction over the Supreme Court justices?

Their lack of accountability is breathtaking, as is the fact that Congress will do nothing to try to alter the situation though they have the power to do so. Perhaps before voting on congressional candidates, it would be wise to find out where the candidates stand on reigning in our Supreme Court.

Don’t Worry. God is Pleased (July 13, 2016)

State of the country got you down? Psalm 115:3 says, “Our God is in heaven and He does whatever He pleases.” That means what is going on in our country is pleasing to God in one sense – an ultimate sense – His purposes are being accomplished.

That doesn’t mean things aren’t bad, but history shows us that many “bad” things were just God acting to bring about something better.

For example, the tabernacle on which God descended gave way to the Temple which God destroyed when He came to dwell in us! Perhaps God is now removing what has been good to bring about something better.

Whatever the case, we need to remember that our hope is not in what we see going on around us but in Him who sees all that is going on around us.

Will Party Values Value Social Conservatives? (July 6, 2016)

A political commentator recently predicted that America’s two political parties are being recast between two major themes – nationalism and globalism – and that the Republican Party would no longer care about social issues.

If that proves true, how will social conservatives give voice to their concerns?

One possibility is that a secondary but parallel shift may also be taking place, between those who want a strong national government imposing its will on all the states and those who want to see a revival of states’ rights inherent in the principle of federalism.

An increasing number of Americans are growing tired of having their will dictated by far away Washington bureaucrats and unaccountable federal judges. If more power over domestic policy returns to the states, social conservatives may find state government to be the place where they can be heard.

Winning the Debate Through Beautiful Marriages (June 29, 2016)

One year ago, the Supreme Court created a right to same-sex “marriage,” which raised the stakes for supporters of biblical marriage to demonstrate why the decision was wrongly decided.

More often than not, we descend into debates, arguing that logic and reason favor traditional marriage. But with truth today determined by feelings, not facts, perhaps we should treat the issue more like a beauty contest than a debate. We still need to make logical arguments for marriage, but most likely winning minds will take more than words. If we want to “win” the debate, we would do well to demonstrate the beauty of marriage done God’s way.

This will take work on our part, as the Church’s record on divorce makes clear. But if we’ll recommit ourselves to beautiful marriages, then eventually God’s truth will win the day.

Calling Out the Real Bullies (June 15, 2016)

After the bill protecting the liberty rights of professional counselors passed, some opponents of the bill called for “boycotts” of Tennessee, but a recent editorial against the bill criticized the boycott efforts because they “empower the bullies.”

What? The alleged bullies the editorialist was referring to were the legislators who supported the counselor’s right of conscience. Wouldn’t a “bully” in this case be someone who wanted to try to force counselors to violate their conscience or face financial harm? Of course! And that is precisely what the author and the boycotters were advocating for.

In a verbal “sleight of hand” the real bullies are trying to pin the bully label on those who actually resisted their efforts to bully counselors and the legislators who supported them. It is time we recognized just who are the real bullies.
