Below are the questions asked of all candidates for the Tennessee General Assembly in FACT’s 2012 Tennessee Voter Guide, including links to brief background material on select questions.

1. Do you support or oppose keeping enrollment in and attendance of pre-kindergarten classes voluntary?
2.  Do you support or oppose allowing the people to vote on an amendment to the state constitution identical to Senate Joint Resolution 710, adopted by the 107th General Assembly, that would allow a modified “federal type plan” for the nomination and confirmation of Tennessee Supreme Court Judges?
3. Do you support or oppose allowing individuals to grow their own marijuana if it is for medicinal purposes?
4. Do you support or oppose repealing the state law that prohibits local governments from requiring, as a condition of providing goods or services to local government, that employers expressly include “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” as protected classes under the employer’s non-discrimination policies?
5. Do you support or oppose allowing state lottery tickets to be purchased through use of a credit card?
6. Do you support or oppose allowing state lottery tickets to be purchased through use of a debit card?
7. Do you support or oppose eliminating the current statutory process by which the Governor appoints members to the Tennessee Supreme Court who are later subject to an uncontested retention referenda and returning to contested popular elections as were held prior to 1994?

12. Do you support or oppose prohibiting the state’s public universities from disciplining or discriminating against a student in counseling, social work or psychology because the student would not counsel or serve a client in furtherance of goals that conflict with the student’s sincerely held religious beliefs or moral convictions, if the student is willing to refer the client to another professional who will provide those services?
13. Do you support or oppose requiring doctors who prescribe the abortifacient RU-486 either to follow the Food and Drug Administration’s protocol for use of the drug or to inform the woman in writing that they are not following that protocol?
14. Do you support or oppose the adoption of the proposed constitutional amendment set forth in Senate Joint Resolution 127, as adopted by the 107th General Assembly, that would make the state constitution neutral on the issue of abortion?
